Kelvin Derksen-Luelf
Build Strategist & Founder
Kelvin Derksen-Luelf is a passionate Tasmanian builder with 20+ years of experience and founder and principal builder of Base Built Co., dedicated to energy-efficient homes and thriving communities
Building runs deep in Kelvin’s family, with a legacy of 300+ homes across Southern Tasmania, including much of the Gateway Estate in New Norfolk. He combines hands-on skill with academic insight, holding a Master’s in Finance and a BA/BSc in Geology, Palaeontology, and Ancient History, and is completing a Certificate in Sustainability at the University of Tasmania.
Kelvin is a regional development advocate, serving as Executive Officer of Business Derwent Valley, a former Telstra Business Awards judge, and recipient of multiple national and state accolades.
Focused on craftsmanship, sustainability, and community impact, Kelvin believes that good building creates a strong, lasting foundation for families and communities to thrive.
Ben Shaw
Trade Coordinator & Founder.
Ben Shaw is a proud Tasmanian dedicated to strengthening communities through construction, industry advocacy, and local leadership. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, he brings a deep understanding of both the challenges and opportunities facing Tasmania’s building sector. As Head of NECA Tasmania (National Electrical and Communications Association) and a councillor at Sorell Council, Ben represents and supports the state’s electrical and communications contractors, ensuring local tradies and businesses are recognised and given every opportunity to succeed.
A former Mayor of the Derwent Valley Council, Ben championed growth, investment, and practical solutions for his community, applying a builder’s mindset to create lasting outcomes. He has also served as President of the New Norfolk Football Club, helping to strengthen one of the Valley’s key community pillars and highlighting the role of sport in building resilience and connection.
Across industry, government, and grassroots sport, Ben continues to focus on building not just homes and infrastructure, but stronger opportunities, relationships, and futures for Tasmania.
Kirby Watson
Chief Executive Officer
Kirby is a proud Tasmanian with more than 25 years of experience spanning commercial and residential construction, business operations, marketing, and market analysis. She brings a disciplined, data‑driven approach to development with focus is on practical delivery supported by strategic planning and long‑term value creation. Her mission is to deliver high‑quality, well‑planned homes efficiently to meet the growing demand for housing across New Norfolk, Southern Tasmania, and beyond.
Strong management coordination sits at the center of Kirby’s leadership style. By working closely with team members, stakeholders, consultants, subcontractors and industry professionals, she ensures every project benefits from clear communication, aligned decision‑making, and a structured delivery process. This coordinated approach enables construction that is fast, organized, methodical, and consistently high in quality.
Kirby is committed to providing much‑needed homes for families while delivering dependable outcomes for investors through disciplined planning, efficient construction systems, and reliable project execution. The end result is communities and value built to last.
Liz Priestely
Sales & Administration
Liz brings a well‑rounded operational skill set to the construction sector, supported by a strong foundation in trade planning, sales, procurement and marketing. She is experienced in managing documentation and procurement workflows, maintaining clear communication across stakeholders, and providing the structure teams need to keep projects moving. With a background spanning commercial decision‑making, supplier management, and brand communication, Liz connects day‑to‑day operational detail with broader project objectives. She thrives in fast‑paced environments where collaboration, clarity, and strategic thinking drive results.
Liz Paine
Accounts & Administration
Liz is an experienced accounts and administration professional within the construction industry. With a strong background in events and business management, I bring excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a highly organised approach to my work. She specialises in payroll processing, financial administration, and coordinating day-to-day business functions.
Nathan Williams
Director & Co-Owner
Nathan Williams is a Tasmanian builder, award-winner, and innovator with 14+ years in construction. As Director and part-owner of Base Built Co., he delivers modular homes that are smarter, healthier, and adaptable to modern living.
A licensed builder (Cert III & IV in Construction), Nathan won the 2025 Master Builders Award and also leads NW Concepts Pty Ltd, known for high-end, precise architectural builds.
Deeply engaged in the community, Nathan serves as President of the Tasmanian Waterski and Wakeboard Federation, President of the Van Diemens Ski Team, Vice President of the Nomads Waterski Club, and has represented Tasmania in show skiing. He is a founding board member of Business Derwent Valley, helping strengthen the local economy.
Certified through the Healthy Home Mastermind program and pursuing Passive House certification, Nathan is driven by energy-efficient, sustainable design. Above all, he is a family man dedicated to turning ideas into action and shaping a smarter, stronger future for Tasmanian housing.
